I agree that there can be cases where a person "designs" a filter in their brain to deal with a component's shortcomings. But that does not automatically exclude the phenomenon of sonic break-in. What we would do here is a very simple practical test. We would buy two sets of caps and run one set for 100 hours in the circuit. Then we would swap the fresh ones with the run-in ones and see if we hear a difference. I have heard differences with break in, and also with cryogenic treatment by using this simple A/B method.
