Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

First: A Persian Carpet

None of your components sounds really bad except your room. (Assuming from your system details that you currently have hardwood floors, no carpet and no wall treatment)

A large thick area carpet will dampen room reverbration and will tame floor reflections. The WAF factor is also huge and if you have a SO, how much easier is it to say that you would really like to upgrade your stereo but first lets get something for you (ie the carpet)

Next thing would clearly be the speakers which are decent but well below the rest of your system in quality.

Next might be the preamp but I would not touch that until I had done the other two. If getting a new preamp, I would want to make a major change in quality. To replace the Arcam pre, I would be looking for somethging a lot better than the pre in the old Majik. I have not heard the new Majik pre but for me to get excited about buying it in your situation, I would have to listen to it enough to be sure that it gave me a big upgrade and also listen to some alternatives and some higher priced units to provide a benchmark.
