If the designer thinks its the amp rather than the pre-amp, I assume that the amp has a relatively low input impedance.
I understand that its a simple and inexpensive change to raise an amp's input impedance. I have heard good reports of increases to hear 100k and higher.
You may want to get some advice from people who know amplifier electronics better than I do. The more you can tell them, the better the advice they can give you. Preamp output impedance, amp input impedance and (if you have them), circuit diagrams would help you get the most useful responses.David
