Re: Help with a Nikko Alpha 440 service manual.

If Ebay doesn't work out, you can get a service manual from AG Tannenbaum for $20. In my “pre high-end” years, I owned a number of Nikko components, including the Alpha 230, 450 and 2000 amps. The Alpha 440 and 450 were essentially the same except for slightly different cosmetics. The owner's manual for the Nikko amps did not provide a whole lot of information beyond basic hookup for the novice user.

Features:
The amp will go into protect mode in the presence of:
1. Short circuit at output terminals.
2. Presence of DC or ultrasonic frequency at the input.
3. Overheating.

Inputs (2 pairs):
1. Direct
2. Normal (input signal passes thru blocking cap -- recommended for pro use).

Outputs (A and B):
When A and B used together, minimum recommended speaker impedance is 8 ohms.
When A or B is used, minimum recommended speaker impedance is 4 ohms.

Specs:
220 watts per channel continuous into 8 ohms @ 20Hz - 20kHZ
240 watts per channel continuous into 4 ohms @ 1kHZ
Dynamic power into 4 ohms was approx. 2.5dB, corresponding to about 403 watts.

Recommended speaker impedance range 4 – 16 ohms.
Input impedance (to best of my recollection): 47K.
