The Gamut amp's input impedance is lowish, 20K ohms, nevertheless the Capitole preamp section drives it very well, with lots of punch and dynamics.
The balanced preamp outputs sound better than the RCA outputs, to my ears, in my system.
Our fellow posters are correct, you must match speakers to room, then amp to speakers, them peamp to eamp.
AFAIK the Capitole CDP preamp will match most amps this side of a low impedance design (some Pass models, some Rowland with 600 ohm inputs, a few late Krell through the current-mode input).
Good luck on your search for the holy grail. You are off to a good start.
