Re: NAD 3020B vs. NAD 3020e

I looked into the same issue for the same reasons a while ago.

I expect the 3020e to be a major step backwards from the 3020B so I suggest listening to it very carefully before going that way.

On the link below, you can see data on the 3020B and the 7020e (which I assume is the receiver version of the 3020e) http://www.nadelectronics.com/support/productinfo_framset.htm

Comparing the 3020B and the 7020e, the external arrangement is quite different and more importantly, so are the specs. While specs don’t tell the whole story on how it sounds, different specs means different electronics. I also see that it was sold elsewhere as the 7225PE. I have listened to many of these PE “Power Envelope” NAD amplifiers and receivers, including some that sold for many times the price of the original 3020’s, but I have not thought that any of them was in the same league as the 3020 or the 3020B.

Comparing the specs, I see that compared to the 3020B, the 7020e has less headroom on the inputs and a lower signal to noise ratio. These are not positive indicators! It also has less power and more distortion.
