Re: Audio Note Oto SE Bi-wire not possible??

For Audio Note cables try under Prducts and then Cables at http://www.audionote.co.uk/. You may be able to follow the pictures and descriptions better than I can. I didn't see the one I was looking at last week though.

While for fluids, multiple smaller pipes have more resistance due to friction at the pipe surface(I am a mechanical engineer) apparently with cables you get the opposite behavior due to a frequency dependent skin effect where electrical charge repulsion causes most of the current to try to flow at the surface of the cable.

There is a lot about home made Cat 5 cables of many types on the TNT Audio site http://www.tnt-audio.com/

I have not braided just used the cables as they are. This is much easier so I would try that first. With each cable being used as a single conductor there is probably no noise cancellation effect due to the twist or braid pattern. Stripping the outer jacket however would make it a bit more flexible which is good.

I have used standard cat 5 cable because I had it left over from an old office we moved out of. Many people say that plenum rated cable with teflon insulation is better (I don't know if they really mean teflon or just fluorinated) There also may be merit in Cat 5i or cat 6.

I'm not sure about the copper quality but they are intended for frequencies far above the audio band.

One of these days I also intend to try the type that uses multiple strands for each conductor. While some say that this is a step in the wrong direction, the extra flexibility is good snd the colour is more appealing.

Regards

David
