55W in *entirely* class A will consume a LOT of power, and kick out most of that power as heat.Many amps today will run in Class A up to a few watts - actually all you need up to moderate listening levels. Running entirely in class A up to 55 W will mean the amp would need considerable heatsinking... for example, take the Pass Aleph3 @ 30w - all Class A:
In the end, the amp sound quality depends on the design, the electronic parts used, and the way they are connected. The result on sound can only be compared through listening tests.
