If you say connect the bass section to 8 ohm and it is a 4 ohm load this will increase the base 3 dB over the mid highs. Since you said your speaks sound warm with the MC402 I would not go this way. You could connect the bass to the 2 ohm taps to decrease the level 3 dB. The MC402 is quad balanced which means you have separate hot and ground connections for 2,4, or 8 ohms. You are safe changing the balance this way.
If you have a 2 ohm load on the 8 ohm tap the amp will of course run hot and put out a lot of power. This we would not recommend as the amp would swing well over 1000 watts.
