Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

Usual precautions necessary..

Let's see.. the M-60 is 210 W into 4 ohms, so that's just at the upper range of the recommended 20-200 W for the speakers.

Of course, you realize that when you turn your amp up to the limit, a progressively higher amount of the distortion and clipping will occur in the signal being fed to the speakers. This is what kills a speaker - no matter what it's recommended rating is!

It's always much safer to put a BIGGER amp than recommended for this reason, and then back off if you hear the woofers clicking or 'bottoming out'.

Those Yamaha amps are some of the best they made. You'd have to try them out to see if they suit you. My experience with cheaper Yamaha stuff has left me with the impression their stuff is neutral, but often sterile.

I'm using an Audio Refinement integrated amp now.
