That is a killer amp! I am a long time fan of Kevin Hayes work, though I also love simplicity. So I am using a VAC 160iSE integrated amp.
Yes, stock VAC tubes are very good, so don't be in any rush to "upgrade". Just relax and enjoy the amp for a couple of months.
As for KT88's, I like the Psvane version in my SE. I did like the Psvane CV-181 TII's (6SN7's) quite a bit too, but I had them in a Cary preamp, not a VAC amp.
As for power cord, well I'm a bit of a nut there. I'm using a High Fidelity CT-1 URR cord on my VAC amp. Most would think that overkill, but it works well for me.
One of the reasons I love the simplicity of the integrated amp, fewer power cords and interconnects to buy.
For interconnects, I'm also using High Fidelity, CT-1UR and CT-1U.
Speaker cables are in flux. I haven't been blown away with the High Fidelity offerings. Currently I am auditioning some models from XLO, Snake River Audio, and MIT.
Enjoy your new amp!!
