Very good preamp with great build quality and "high end "sound for good or bad ;) Compared to clean SS preamps can sound little slow and tepid and volume control is rather coarse on the lower range . Good buy non the less. Vintage pre's can sound great (SP3 , SP6) and can be modified to sound really excellent the problem is ,you touch it and it looses value , you don't it sounds vintage , you send it to ARC it will cost arm and leg and you may not like the result . Anyway , ARC is a safe buy . You hardly loose money on resale so you can go trough the lineup pretty much without loss . Buy and sell ;) Do not trust any second hand opinions and have some fun (while you can) and remember that most if not all of ARC preamps need to see at least 20k power amp input impedance (most solid state amps have 10k )
