I have an older Marantz 5.1 AVR I bought used from a local buyer that has a massive power supply, full set of jumpered preouts/main ins for all channels -- not just preouts like most AVRs -- and weighs a hair under 50lbs. The unit lacks today's desired video switching features which is fine because I don't use them. This is one unit which Marantz apparently did not skimp on. Its sound is warm, smooth and surprisingly transparent. In two channel mode, the Marantz held its own surprisingly well compared to various 2-channel separates in my equipment collection. In that light, I would find it hard to justify spending money on a separate multichannel amp for HT, when the Marantz AVR does such a fine job.
