I used to own an MC-101. I never had a hum problem with either MM or MC cartridges. Did you adjust the gain to match your cartridge ? I upgraded to a Classé CP-45 with phono stage and it was a notable improvement over the B&K. The CP-50 was a further step up.What's your budget ? You can find a CP-50 or CP-60 on Audiogon in the $1,000-$1,500 range, or DR-5/Model 5 and DR-6/Model 6 in the $600-$950 range. If you want something more modern, a CP-500 will run you about $2,200. These may not come with phono stage, so you may have to use an outboard unit or the MC-101 phono through the tape outs. Phono boards for the CP-500 are available from the factory. They're not available for the older models.
