RE: Gain matching

If your separate power amp has separate gain (volume) controls, there is no problem provided that its maximum gain is at least as high as the power amp stage in the integrated amp.

I matched gains using a simple Radioshack sound level meter but there are also other ways to do it.

At any volume setting, the preamp output fed to both the internal and external power amps is the same so once both power amps are set up for the same gain, they stay in balance at any volume.

You could use an external integrated amp instead of a pwer amp but there are typically more components in the signal path and you are more likely to bump the gain (volume) setting. One possible advantage is that the integrated may have a higher input inpedance than some power amps.
