The differences in level you are hearing is because the HT speakers are more sensitive than the ceiling speakers and playing louder. Why would you want to be playing your HT and whole house speakers all at the same time ? You should drive the ceiling speakers with the spare amp. If your receiver has preouts for the main channels, you could use a Y-adapter to feed both the spare amp and main section of the receiver.
