To disengage the spring used in seting VTF, do you run the dial all the way up past the 3 gram mark, or line it up with the white dot?

The answer is on this page:
The spring is NOT disingaged at 3 grams - it is only under much less tension but is still 'attached' and engaged and capable of transmiting vibration. In fact - from my testing - it transmits a longer duration of vibration then when the spring is under tension.
IMO - Origin Live has many good idea's and products - but not all of the advice is well grounded, and their spring advice seems to be very questionable - at best. They don't even get into the advantages of dynamic balancing, which are important and a major rega advantage over the competition.
The ONLY way to disable the spring - is to remove it!!! Which i did - but after trying the rega with damped spring, set to 3, no spring, i believe that springless rega has minor advantages in transparency - but that the stock rega is a better performer on an overall basis as used by design - with dynamic balancing.

the spring is still in the 'play' either way.I did an experiment a while back. I put a stethascope against the rega and placed the dial on 0 then on max 3.
On 3 the reverberation of the spring was lower in frequency but lasted the longest in duration. At 1 it was the highest in frequency and but still lasted somewhat to long.
At 2 - it had the best characteristics.
If you want to have it 'disabled' you must remove the spring. BUT - that brings on other issues that i am not certain are always advantages.
I did it!!!

If I didn't want to remove the spring my best bet would be to set the dial at 2 and then adjust the counterweight for proper VTF? (P3 2000, RB300, Incognito, Heavyweight)Thanks,
Jeff
i would go with the proper dynamic vtf as per the dial.contrary to what other have stated - the rega rb300 dial setting did not make a difference in sound quality because of spring setting.
The spring should be used as designed - or taken out.
I had the dynamic vtf rega rb300 in use (glider) for years and found the sound to be more then satisfactory.

Ever since I rewired my arm I have turned the dial all the way up until it stopped and then adjusted the heavyweight to set VTF. Should be interesting to try it the other way. Now where's that bluddy Shure gage?..Cheers,
Jeff
Run it all the way past the 3 mark.
