Hi, WBWB:Yeah, a personal audition is the best way to go, but if that's not feasible, then I think you couuld do A LOT worse than the Lumens. I was quite impressed with them--and they are gorgeous-looking speakers.
My DartZeels--well, that's a long story. Both are out at the repair shop right now, and I'm going to sell them when they come back. I'm really tired of futzing around. I just want to listen to music! I'm auditioning replacements right now, and I think I've settled on the final two. The Dart is a VERY sweet amp, no doubt about it, but I think I'm ready to make a move.
The ASR is an excellent piece. I heard the four-box setup (w/battery supply) at several rooms at CES, and I was generally quite impressed. It's a bit on the darkish side, but mated to diamond tweeters and ceramic drivers, the combination would prove very nice, I think. I heard it with Kharma Miidi Exquisites, and that was my least favorite of the ASR rooms. But I think that had more to do with the Midis, which are a pretty disappointing speaker, IMO (and I should know--I owned them!).
Good luck in your quest!

Hi Quint,
What happened to your Dartzeels? Sorry to hear that they are in hospital!Remember a few months ago when we were on this forum, I mentioned to you then that the ASR was darkish-sounding? Heh heh, seems like you have concurred with me on this. In whatever sense, it is an excellent amplifier. Not only in amplifiers but also on speakers like Kharma and Marten. Well, have not hear the Lumen Whites yet!
It seems that our listening "taste?" "preference?" "character?" are quite alike. Guess you and I listen to sounds in a similar way! It's nice, so that we can share our experience with each other.
Anyway, just sharing a trivial piece of experience about ASR Emitter 2 with you. I personally find the cheaper Emitter2 (3box) having a more "Wow!" factor than the Emitter2 Exclusive(4 box).
I can't really put my finger to why that is so. I just feel I have more goosebumps listening to the 3box than the 4box. But anyway, my experimental experience was not done in an ideal A/B comparison, but with a time-gap of 2 months between the 2 demonstrations at the dealer's showroom, using the same CD player and speakers.
Well, if you like to have some fun, see if you can tell me which is better sounding to you!
WBWB:Yes, that is interesting how we seem to have similar preferences. :) Even though the ASR is on the dark side of the spectrum, it's not objectionably so. I think that "darkness" comes out only if you have dead-neutral components surrounding it. Otherwise, it's pretty hard to notice, IMO. I didn't get a chance to compare the three-box to the four, but your comments are intriguing. I wonder why the three-box would sound livelier? That's interesting. Maybe the extra interconnect is sapping some of the life and detail out of the music? As for the 'replacement" amps, I would prefer to discuss this offline. Someone whom I had a falling-out with monitors these forums, and I would like to keep my choice to myself. Hope you understand. Just drop me an email, and I'd be happy to reveal what I chose.
