I am pretty new to all of this and have been reading the posts here for a few weeks. This is a great website and I have learned a lot.
Anyway I picked up the glass toslink normally sold at Sound Professionals off of Ebay as I wanted to replace my Acoustic Research plastic toslink. This toslink received quite a review here from Todd Krieger.I am not an audiophile by any means and I have a modest system, but the difference after just a few minutes of listening is obvious.
Clearer and more defined sound overall, more detail, more of a sense of space between instruments. It is also louder if that is possible. My system is:
Denon 5 ch DTS receiver
Parasound 1000 hca amp for the fronts only
RBH Sound 61SE fronts
RBH 661SE Center
Polk Audio S6’s for rears
ACI Titan Sub
Pioneer Elite DVD/CD player
DH Labs T14 silversonic speaker wire
Tekline TL 2000 RCA interconnect from the Denon L/R preouts to the Parasound amp
Glass Toslink digital cable from Pioneer to Denon
I have never tried a digital coax so I can't compare this glass toslink to a decent coax, but it definitely is better than the plastic toslink I was using. I am going to get a decent coax to see what the difference is between the two.If anyone is interested, do a search on Ebay for "Glass Toslink" and these will show up. Or try this link:

Quite a value for the price. The guy I bought it from has good feedback and shipped it out right away.

I just ordered mine from Ebay. Will post report after hearing it!
.
what was the trademark and model of the Toslink cable you were using before?
I was using an Acoustic Research cable I bought from Best Buy.
Not sure of the model number or if they even have different model numbers.
It is their Pros Series Hi definiton version and cost around 20-30$ if I remember correctly. Is thicker than the little skinny black toslinks one often sees and has better terminations.Did not sound any different than the skinny black ones, however, and I would not have thought that there were better toslinks available until I started reading on this site.
I will compare the Glass toslink from this guy (i got 2 on their way to me) and compare it to the Monster IL300, the Wireworld Supernova+ III (glass), and an assortment of some DIY and comemrcial SPIDF cables.... I have a feeling that the Ebay glass toslink may trounce the the Monster IL300 but hopefully be similar to the Wireworld.... THAT would be cool!
The eBay seller is selling glass Toslinks with the exact same packaging and description as the Toslink at Soundprofessionals.com, and reviewed by Todd Kreiger. I can weigh in on the glass toslink v. digital RCA cable by saying that I A/B'd the Audioquest Optilink 5 with their comparable digital cable and the result was not even close. The glass toslink was significantly better on every criterion, and was significantly louder as well (we volume matched the outputs for the test, BTW). I bought two toslinks and replaced my digital cable!
.
The Audioquest VSD-4. The difference between the Toslink and the coax was the biggest surprise of the night, although I had been prepared for it by Todd Kreiger's review. However, the difference was impressive.
The Van den Hul Optocoupler II is the best toslink cable in the market.
