I got a 3950 and applied the dampening mods already, which luckily, bring down the transport noise a lot. Now I want to try some of the electronics mods. There's the Swenson mods, and there's the Vinn .......

Swenson's mods bypass a digital filter. Vinnie's mods replace caps and stiffen the power supply. Entirely different and it's best to do both. But if using the Swenson mods there is no need to bother w .......

The Toshiba has both the "Swenson" and "Vinnie" mods but with the stock op-amp. I didn't replace the op-amp because it is not used with the Swenson mod and it looked like a pain to change. The MSB is .......

well if you are doing the swenson mod then you dont need the whole vinnie mod just the power supply mods along with a few caps on the audio board,no opamp upgrade as the swenson mod bypass the opamp : .......

They really are different and work together. The Vinne mods replace the stock caps and opamp with better quality parts. The Swenson mods capture the analog signal before it goes to an opamp for filter .......

I don't know of anyone who mods the 9100. However, I modded my 9200 with excellent results. I just did basic power supply and audio path mods -- similar to the Vinnie/Swenson mods for the 3950 or most .......

The 3950, with its metal case, is better. Search in Google for "Vinnie mods" and "Swenson mods" and you'll find them. If you have a good source for the Panasonic caps, go for it. If not the Nichicons .......

I already did the full Vinnie Rossi mods on my Toshiba 3950 using a browndog adapter and OPA627's opamps (see attached link). Enjoying this modded player a LOT! So much that I got an extra 3950 from A .......

Awesome work John!!! So because everytime the unit is powered ON it defaults to the sharp filter, you need some circuitry to shift in data to put it into slow mode filtering everytime it powers ON. D .......

Most aspects of both mods are pretty easy to do. The one thing I wouldn't try is the op-amp replacement. But if you do the Swenson mod you bypass the op-amp anyway. There is a minimal amount of solder .......

This is exactly my experience also. The stock player will never sound great since, for one thing, it uses cheap electroytics for coupling. Along these lines, I think the RTX multicap used in the Swens .......

The maximum voltage output of the DAC is 4 volts PP, so pretty much any voltage cap will do. Get the lowest voltage cap available, it will probably be cheaper and smaller. John S. .......
