..i too have had the vse mods done to my scd-1. prior to that i have most of the audiomod mods done also so i have the ability to compare the 2 if desired. the vse mods are better...imo...and are well .......

Dave, I wasn't saying what certain mods do and don't do. Been there along with you the entire time and wasted a lot of money on resistor, cap, op amp... mods did that litle in comparison to the latest .......

I have a Sony for which I spent $1k on mods, and it definitely improved the sound, but not the reliability. I would never buy a used Sony, however, and invest that kind of money on mods; I'd just buy .......

My guess is that the mods will be not be altered. It looks like it would be easy to reverse the ROM upgrade if necessary. But, you probably will not get free warranty service on your hot-rod SCD-1. :: .......

Under the right circumstances I would consider DIY mods on relatively inexpensive gear. What I will never do is pay for a mod that costs a huge percentage of the original purchase price of the piece .......

You should go for it. I have a VS lev 5 modded SCD-555ES and it sounds just fabulous. Thomas from VS told me that 5000ES sounds better than 555 ... so don't think twice. Lev 5 is one of best sounding .......
