If you havn't already...you should get the 1200 tonearm re-wire kit from KAB...I guarantee you would re-think the opinion of your 1200 in comparison to your VPI.... Might even sound better. ::: TOPIC: .......

The KAB was modded to use with 78rpms. This table (the SL-1200) was essentially designed for DJs. The MMF-7 is designed more for sound quality. While the SL-1200 is decent, the MMF-7 is sounds better. .......

AFAIK the entire 1200 has the same drive system, and the same tonearm. The 1200 is a "for real" turntable and arm. Look for the review on tnt-audio.com. If I were getting one, I would consider getting .......

I think a KAB modded 1200 will probably sound better than 'the ol' Ariston. Namely, the motor on that guy is starting to groan a little bit in its old age. I'm sure the 1200 will maintain speed better .......

Kevin at KAB warns about overlubing the 1200. When I ordered the 1200 oil from him he said I did not need to lube a new 1200 for at least 2 years. Even then, 1-2 drops was plenty. Any more and it will .......

Having owned a VPI MKIII and a Linn, I'd go with the KAB ...which I have not heard. But, given how much I prefer my stock 1200 to my Linn or my VPI, I can only imagine that the KAB would be the way to .......

A modded 1200 will get you *very* far and will last a lifetime. It is an extremely fast, neutral sounding machine. My objective has been to have my digital and analog rigs sound as close to each other .......

You didn't specify your budget, but a decked out KAB modified Technics SL1200 would be my choice if I had $1337 to spend. I think it should work great with a Denon DL-160 cartridge .......

Good suggestion. Nice thing about the 1200 is the speed control for non-standard RPM. Also, removable headshell makes it easy to switch between 78 and microgroove carts. .......

Also keep in mind the SL-1200 can be modified by KAB for 78 RPM. That modification along with the plus/minus 8% pitch control make it an excellent turntable for spinning shellac. .......
