Can I substitute ECC188 or 6922 with ECC189? I looked it up a bit and the ECC189 has the same heater voltage (6.3v) but it is for UHF application. Has anyone tried it for audio? .......

No. The ECC189 made for cascade input in TV and radio receivers. This valve is variable mu type. This results large distortion. The ECC89/189 used by Jadis for MC preamp, where the low level not affec .......

James, according to the codes you mention, the tube is an ECC189, made in Albertown, Australia. The ECC189 is a variable mu tube and sometimes sold as an ECC88, which it isnīt. If you find it good sou .......

It should work ok in a buffer stage . Apart from that I would avoid , ECC189 is a vari-mu tube (non-linear) Al .......

The pcc189 is the 7 volt version of the ecc189/6es8 tube and is not suitable as substitute in most 6dj8 circuits. You can do a search here to read the various discussions. .......

The 6ES8/ECC189 is way too non-linear for line level service. You might be OK in a phono preamp. The type contains varying pitch grid helices. That is an obvious nod to AGC, in TV tuner service. ::: T .......

There is no reason not to enjoy them. We don't offer them...but don't miss it as it is a cheap tweek. For clarity... 6ES8 is a ECC189 (labeled either way) 7ES8 is a PCC189 (almost always labeled PCC1 .......

The 6ES8 is NOT a proper substitute for the 6DJ8. Tube substitution guides are only a starting point. You really need to look in a real tube manual and compare the parameters that are relevant for you .......

ECC189=6ES8, which is a variable mu tube. Generally it's not a good choice since the variable mu means high distortion. BTW, the variable mu is achieved by varying the spacing between the grid wires. .......
