I'm guessing here, but I'd say that for a Shure V15, the lighter the headshell, the better. These cartridges prefer low mass arms. A heavier headshell, however, would be better suited for a moving coi .......

It's a decent headshell by comparison to other inexpensive models. Keep in mind that it is their entry level headshell and so it isn't as rigid as the heavier ones. If you need it light and flat, then .......

I just read your post again John and I think I found the answer to using my 9.4 gram Ortofon headshell. Since your AT magnesium headshell is 8 grams and doing fine, my 9.4 gram Ortofon should be fine .......

Ortofon supplies an adaptor which provides a flat mounting surface for a standard headshell. The image you've posted is how it would be if you just inserted it into an SPU headshell. .......

The need for expensive headshells is one reason I use the EMT and Ortofon SPU. An Orsonic headshell is at least $200. A DL-103R around $300. And if you use some of the 103 tweaks seen here, it's anoth .......

The Ortofon headshell actually 16+ grams, and along with the 103R, weighs 24grams (more than the counterweight will accomodate). I honestly didn't even think of weight being an issue, thinking carbon .......

Basically whatever you want. The effective mass is primarily dictated by the weight of the cart and headshell. Old Ortofon arms are heavy because the counterweight is heavy and is fixed. The SME 3012 .......

The Lpgear premium headshell I was talking about is very simular to the Sumiko. If I remember right your question was does it sound better than the stock headshell. And it does because it is higher .......

Correct azimuth adjustment is necessary if you value a correctly proportioned, balanced and coherent soundfield. So if your arm doesn't have this adjustment, using the Ortofon method is worthwhile - p .......

I am using the LPgear equivalent and I am very happy with it. It's a must if you use MC carts., but it does help with MM also. The LPgear comes with upgraded litz wires too. I dont know about the Or .......

No way to be sure but a couple detachable headshell arms of about the same length (SME 3009, Micro Seiki MA-505) run around 3-5 gms effective mass without the headshell according to one of my old issu .......

BTW, another issue with your old Ortofon arm is that the headshells it's meant to use are much shorter than modern SME/Ortofon style ones. You would need to mount the arm father back to have the right .......
