NO CAT5 has a teflon _jacket_, they at most have teflon insulated wire pairs. The jacket is often a flame reatrdant PVC, the best jacket material I know of on a CAT5 cable is not readily available in .......

Polyurethane is not a very good dielectric, the FEP teflon in the CAT5 cables should sound better, unless it is really PVC insulated CAT5 wires. When comparing DIY audio cables, you should only change .......

If that's a tube model, then tube amps are usually quite forgiving of capacitive loads, but if they have a high enough output Z, AND the speaker cable has a high enough capacitance, then they can actu .......

The outer jacket is more than likely PVC, not Teflon. Although a lot more work, stripping the jacket off and braiding produced a better sounding cable in my system. Although capacitance can be an issu .......

I built a CAT5 speaker cable using an alternative design from the TNT website -- it was easier to build. I used 4 CAT5 Teflon cables and braided them together tightly without removing the teflon outer .......

That's a tube amp right? If so, you shouldn't have a problem- SS amps are more susceptible to the capacitance issues than are tube amps, because tube amps have higher output impedances. I ran them wit .......

I'd go with Jon's recipe, or go with raw Cat5 and leave inside the jackets (less hassle). Use one 8 pair run for + and another 8 pair run for - for each speaker (twist both runs together- leave in PVC .......

My vote goes for just fine. I use a 10 foot pair on my Velleman, driving a pair of Acoustat Spectra 11 hybrid electostatic/dynamic speakers. Checked with a scope, no apparent problems, no audible prob .......

Naim's are notorious for being unstable with anything but zip cord or lower capacitance. CAT5 based speaker cables far exceed the amount needed to send a Naim to amplifier heaven. Jon Risch ::: TOPIC .......

I use 18awg solid copper wire for speaker cables. My ultimate version will be silver plated OFC in teflon, same as the hookup wire I use in my amp and speakers, so I just figured I would be consistent .......
