Yamamoto has a newish 2A3 amp. Most amps will not do the two tubes well. .......

The Yamamoto A-08S can be fitted with 2a3 tubes with no modification, other than bypassing the voltage dropping resistors, which I use with 45 tubes in the filament supply to reach exactly 2.5VDC supp .......

The quality for the the price are exceptional for the 'AD1' DHT amp being driven by '32' tetrodes. Yamamoto source all their custom transformers from Tamura. I've seen and listened to their 2A3 stereo .......

I think this gives you the best of every possible world....the 45's give that amazing really in the room with you sound, and the 300B always have a great midrange... so you will be using the best of b .......

i have an a-08s. i purchased it used and the original owner provided a pair of EML 45 solid plates and EML 2A3 solid plates. it's hard to really describe the sound, but the 45 is like magic in a bottl .......

You are not alone. I prefer the F-3 too for the reasons you state. I had a Korneff 45 which was very good but the F-3 surpasses it in all areas except human voice. My speakers are PHY-HP SAG 30's in A .......

As Peter pointed out, I believe that was quite a common pre-war design. I think it looks pretty good. Certainly EML are making a bid deal about it. I think the EL156 uses that base too - another nice .......

I've built George's Lightspeed and a version with a simple buffer at the input. Both work very well with the DIY 2a3 and Yamamoto 45 SETs I use. If your amp needs no more gain than your source provide .......

It has to do with the operating point of the tube. When you take a 2A3 and put it in a 45 circuit, you are halving the current through the 2A3 tube. This usually gives a "more relaxed" sonic presentat .......

I would consider the Paramount kit. You can run 300b's or a 2a3. The forum is the best there is and the upgrade potential is higher IMHO. Mike at Magnequest is always working on some exotic transforme .......

I assume you are talking about BD-Design horns? Regarding the Orpheans and Oris Swings, 2-3 watt amps can sound good, but I would recommend 5 or more watts. I've got a 2.5 watt amp here and also 2 wa .......

I use Welborne DRD45's with my Abby's (I also have DRD300B's which I use with Super Abby's), but use a tube pre with it - I think the more limiting factor might be the TVC with the DRD45's. I've tried .......

well it's apparent you are quite new to dht sets! unless you plan on getting an 845 tube based amp (rare, uncommon, and costly), you essentially have three options: 300b at 8wpc, 2a3 at 3.5wpc, and 45 .......

The Yamamoto A-08S is UNDYNAMIC, as are 99% of the commercial Type 45 amps out there !!! You can DIY build a dynamic Type 45 amp, that will creme any 2A3 amp in dynamics, but ONLY if you have a GOOD .......

GSI is correct, I meant my rectifier tube is a 5R4 NOT a 5AR4. I purchased the AVVT's through Bottlehead Corp, I think they were about $500/pair. Prices of good 6SN7/vt-231's are definitely pricey ($3 .......

it's hard to generalize. The only Japanese SET amps I've heard are the Yamamoto A-08, which uses 45 output tubes (type 45 tube, not quantity of 45 tubes, though that would be VERY cool if it could be .......
