Yeah, receivers are hard to beat for digital inputs and HDMI switching. Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha etc are all pretty good and vary mostly with price and features. I use an older Yamaha RX-v5 somet .......

If you want a receiver for patio speakers and an iPod or phone, the simplest place to go is Goodwill or the Salvation Army store. There are plenty of nice Sony, Kenwood or Yamaha stereo receivers for .......

Since your budget seems to lean in the "free" direction, I'd go with something that's cheap, reliable, readily available, and fairly well supported - like a Yamaha receiver. I've owned an RX V2500 7.1 .......

I've got the same Yamaha RXV2700 in my office/game room. It's tempting to upgrade, but it does a great job for HT, has plenty of power, sounds great and I've got enough HDMI inputs to handle my needs. .......

Onkyo tends to have a bit higher current amp section thnmost while the Yamaha may give up a bit of bass control, it has a more natural sounding midrange, IMO. .......

I had the RX 777 rcvr which had the 100 watt amp. I found it overly bright and harsh with a pair of Paradigm Studio 60 speakers. Other speakers may not have that problem. However, it proved to be 100% .......

Hi AP, I've seen this amp on Epray for $400. I asked about that amp because I have a smaller Sony ES amp now that's rated at 110 WPC. Overall, I like the Sony ES amp I have but I'd like to do better. .......
