Not a big fan of the DBX 231S, filters are too "namby pamby". Never heard of the Zeck EG230. The Kenwood GE7030 seems to only have 14 filters, not enough for "surgical" use. Bill's suggestion is valid .......

Maxhifi, I bought a quite similar pair of Sansuis a decade ago, with both dual (different) mid "squawkers" and two tweeters, the only way for the woofer to "keep up" with that racket was the high Fb. .......

Gary, Yes, the cap is required if not using a horn on it. If the foam is not in good condition replace it with felt, without foam or felt the back wave will reflect back into the diaphragm and respons .......

I have no direct experience with the two speakers, but the E145 Xmax is 7.11mm and RE is 5.7, while the K145 Xmax is only 5.08mm with a 8.8 RE. A 4.06 mm peak to peak difference is quite a bit, see .......

Interesting that Tannoy actually posts harmonic distortion figures, 8.6% at 5K , 125 dB. Given that the distortion is going up over 3% with a 5 dB increase, obvious why they quit at 125 dB on a cab .......

The EV DL15W in a 6.4 cubic foot box with a 35 FB has essentially flat response to 38 Hz. Not very low by today's standards, but about as low as anything in the EV line up, and a very good, tight low .......

The Eminence 3015LF is pretty efficient, but does not go super low. The Eminence Lab 12 is less sensitive on paper since sensitivity is measured mid band, but a pair will put out a lot more below 40 H .......

Measurements are best done outside, getting a bit chilly now. A huge dip could be from floor bounce, or room problems. The measurement mic needs to be on the ground to avoid path length difference and .......

I'm not a user, but have inhaled. I like the phenolic 290, 2482 in the 500 hz range better than the aluminum units. I prefer cones in this range, but that is outside this discourse. .......

The cones that were damaged were within about 5 feet from "Ground Zero" of the Pyro. The old DB rig had lots of cones in close proximity, 4 15" with about a 32" x 45" exit. "Dozens" may have been an o .......

Sorry djk, Pyro , especially concussion bombs, will damage horn loaded bass cones more often than HF compression drivers. I can attest to REO Speedwagon destructions, and many others- there is a lot .......

Just will post that the M4 can not do heavy duty 200 HZ stuff, but if you are satisfied with about 6 to 12 dB down @200 from what a 2440, 2445, 2446, DH1A can do, go for it. I still think they are use .......

Typical music, if there is such a thing, requires far more decible level below 500 hz than above, so although you can get away with a few watts to drive the compression horns, you'll still needa lotsa .......

I used a 3rd order on the APT with some attenuation still required, and second order on a pair of Alpha 8", MTM arrangement. Did it this way to avoid overlap in the crossover range and keep the excurs .......

Freddie, the plexi doesn't chip much if you feed it just right with sharp blades. The 2308 are about 10" wide as I recall, and have enough plates to cover up the 4" horn. JBL stacked them ad nauseum i .......

I made 16 "modular horns" back in 1978, they were called "Collapsible Crunchers". They used two 15" drivers, used Gauss back then, the compression chamber was 36" x 24" x 22.5". The horns were 48" wid .......

Yes, I recommend the 2482 to be used above 500 to keep excursion and distortion low. My experience is that a cone driver will sound less objectionable when driven to the max than a 2482. I'm sure the .......

If you are satisfied with the response of the 15 below 150 HZ, I would reccommend an 8" or 10" for midrange, not another 15". You won't need horn loading on the mid cone to keep up with the low cone. .......

Never heard the modified TDM24CX-4, but the stock ones did not seem to have the headroom of the B.S.S., doubt the headroom would change even if the caps cleaned it up. The TDM24CX-4 was a damn good ch .......
