The highest bit rate MP3 I know of is 320 Kbps. Redbook CDs are typically 1411 Kbps, which can be ripped bit-perfect in FLAC/ALAC or WAV/AIFF. Why do you think that would not make a difference in SQ? .......

You didn't mention budget, but I would suggest you do as I did: keep the Ikon as a transport and get a DAC. I have tried numerous CD players and my opinion is that you will need to spend $2k or better .......
