There is some debate on this. Hook up the meter in the VDC range to the speaker terminals, the 300mv if it has one. If the speaker terminals are screw type, you can't do this, you will have to press t .......

The R-115 is far from its "last legs." You need to use Deoxit from internet sources or Radio Shack. Most likely it is one of the pots or pushbuttons. Clean and then exercise ALL of them. .......

You'll know when the surrounds are going bad. I wouldn't risk pulling them to check, as there is a good chance of damaging the cabinet, though I'm speaking more so for the v1 than the others which I'v .......

You need to disconnect the wiring from one leg of the tweeter, you are measuring circuit resistance, not the resistance of the tweeter only. .......

I would not use a vacuum, too dangerous. The tape trick works and I would add that rather than pull the tape up perpendicular to the dent, in which case the tape usually just pops off, that you tug on .......

I don't think you are correct with regards to the Matelectronics foam working on Advents. This foam is dimensionally a good fit, but the inner edge is angled and needs to be flat. The foam from www.rs .......

If it IS the foam, then what you have on your hands is a .99 per speaker repair. The 8" AR woofer on this is the same as the unpowered Rock Partner, most likely. I repaired that speaker with these 8" .......

I think Elmer's Stix-All would be your best bet. It glues anything to anything and is silicone based, so it is flexible. Sort of like silicone caulk, but easier to handle and spread. Other manufacture .......

Lettering comes off very easily from some receivers, be extra careful with H/Ks in particular, use warm water with liquid soap, or just leave these alone. I use deoxit contact cleaner on knobs and swi .......

This is probably it. The problem is electronic, not mechanical. The thumping on both channels, meters (if present), move back and forth in tune with the thumps. This problem killed my first tape deck, .......

I have come across this a number of times, a tape player that has a loud "thump, thump, thump..." noise from both channels when you press play. What is the most likely cause? .......

No obviously leaking caps, nor burnt resistors. The unit had all four tubes, it is under a large stack now, will post photos when I get to it (hopefully this year?)...The face plate is mint, the case, .......

Something similar happend to me with a Carver C-2 (or 200mt?). The volume knob had a little static on it the seller said, nearly blew the woofers off a pair of CerwinVega VS100 speakers. A little deox .......

Got some mold on some EPI (A1100) black fabric grilles stored in the basement. The material looks like polyester. It is mounted on a plastic frame. Can I carefully clean this with a sponge and warm so .......

Well, I turned this equipment on for the first time and nearly blew the CV-100s I had connected. The seller said there was some "static when turning the volume knob," unbelievably piercing, explosive .......

Ok, this weekend's finds included a Carver C-2 preamp ($50) and 200t amp ($50). I have never owned component style equipment before. What is the advantage over let's say a typical vintage receiver? Wh .......

When a quick purchase decision is a must, such at garage sales, it helps to have some "rules of thumb" regarding what is in fact a worthy buy, particularly when unfamiliar with a brand name or product .......

I got this unit from someone who said he left it on all night and then stopped powering up. Fuse replaced, but did not fix problem. Looks to be a PS problem. Is there a known issue with the PS on thes .......
