Velodyne won't give schematics to anyone that is not a licensed repair center thanks to sue-happy attorneys. It's really NOT an issue to get this sub fixed. What's the bend over crap all about? Mayb .......

I got into mine and found a 3.15A 250V plain white ceramic fuse, so the 2.5A slo blo is the Wyred recommended one I should be using. What I did not know was whether it was a fast or slo blo type. Y .......

As far as I know there are no swapmeets around the Boise Idaho area and the thrift stores usually have nothing or someone else has the people working at the stores alerting them when something good .......

I had some Cardas Golden Ratio 0.1uf 600V caps, so I put them in place of the 0.047uf coupling caps. That, along with changing out the top hat diodes with some UF5804s has given me some noticeable b .......

Well I put in four UF5804s (3A 1000V, I believe) and there is a bit more bass now. I also found some badly soldered connections in the power supply and fixed those too. Still a bit bright on the top .......

I think part of the problem might be with the tiny yellow IC film caps since the roll-off with a .047uf cap is where you say it is. It shouldn't be reaching up into the mid-bass frequencies as I am .......

That's a tough one because I've had both, recapped both, and like both very much. I'd have to give the edge to the Pilot 245 because it just did everything well as the S-5000 did, but a bit sweeter. .......

I don't think of it as a fad to bypass the tone controls. When you hear a problem with the tone control circuit and do not have a way to fix it, then plan B would logically be to bypass that circuit .......

I will have to take it apart again to check, but I believe that the meter markings and a deep green background color are on the lens. A plain lens would work, but again, since it is not cosmetically .......

With my 707 each socket that had a poor ground connection had to be individually grounded (soldered from the backside). You can check on the topside where the sockets are attached to the top panel an .......

Wheezer, I think these are the maximum current ratings (which I got from the tube data sheets). The current draw for the 6AV5s is 1.2A each. I'm not going to use the 6FJ7, but use a 6BL7 or 6BX7 inst .......

I tried the Tung-Sol 6550, EI KT-90, WE 350B, and several 6L6 types in mine. The 6L6 types and the 350Bs sound the best. I'd not try the 6V6s unless the amp was set up/modified to run that output tub .......

Yeah I noticed that the 350Bs take a long time to warm up. It takes 30 to 45 seconds just for the filament to begin to brighten. I left the one tube in for five minutes with no response at first. Af .......

I checked the bias this afternoon with the KT-88s in. The manual calls for 285ma and I got 280ma on my Fluke meter. The 6V6s ran at 185ma and the EL34s were at 232ma. Looks like the bias is okay. Wh .......

Another bit of information to add is that when turned on, the PT has a very faint hum, but when the KT-88s are on for around 30 seconds and are heated enough to produce music, then the PT gets loude .......

The PT does not seem to run abnormally hot and it takes a while for it to get hot. The OTs get a little warm themselves, but a good bit of the heat comes from the KT-88s which are close to the PT an .......

Yes, mechanical noise, that's what is loudest. There is slight hum through the speakers when you put your ears up to them, but the noisy PT is noticeable from 5 ft away when no music is playing. ::: .......

In my Cary SLP-30 the early GE 5814 with the carbon grey plates did sound the best over the other 5814's, though the CBS/Raytheon 5814 (many variations) were a close second. Its good to get opinions .......

That is what I thought the coupling caps were, but I do not like to guess. It looks as if a recap will not be too cheap (there are a lot), but it will save me money in the long run and keep things run .......

Check the underside of the Artisan ECC82 in the center of the pins for the diamond/square shape impression in the glass. If you have this, then the tube is a Telefunken. I'd had a few of these ECC82's .......

No gas check done. I do not have the gas test on my tester. Usually, when gas is present, I see a blue glow in the tubes I'm testing when I put a load on them, but I didn't see any in any of these. .......

The amp is a VTL 75/75 and I'd just checked the bias the day before and it was at 290-300. I just checked the arcing KT-90 tube on my mutual conductance tester again and held the test/load button dow .......

I've auditioned dozens of 12AU7 types in my preamp and the Tung-Sol 12AU7A's sounded very good. The lows were full, but not boomy. The mids were just right and the highs were detailed, but not shrill .......

My preamp has seperate knobs for adjustment of each channel instead of a balance knob, and I doubt if he did any adjustments, but he probably just cranked it up so that he could hear his CD throughout .......

The third mica is of the same 'spoke' type as the other two, but not as thick and the D-getter sits right on top of that. I don't have any application for a 12BH7. I just use four 12AT7s in my amp and .......

I checked the 12AT7 using 12BH7 settings and came up with an 86/84 reading which is in the NOS normal range. It looks as if National mislabeled these tubes. I don't have a picture, but there are five .......

I've got some NOS National 12AT7s that don't look or test like other 12AT7s. The glass on these is at least 1/4" taller than an RCA 12AT7 and the plates are taller than a 12AX7's plates (almost double .......

When checking for microphonic tubes in my preamp I just tap the preamp faceplate (w/amp & preamp on) when all is quiet around the house. That sends sufficient vibration throughout the unit so that you .......

I've found some of my preamp tubes (12AU7s) to be microphonic by just tapping on the faceplate of my preamp with my finger. The volume does not even have to be turned up. You'll hear different things .......

I bought some matched Cv4024s from fatbottle and gold plated the pins myself and heard no difference. The Cv4024 sounded just as great as ever, with or without gold pins. Buy the regular Mullards and .......

First, you'd always check the connections and fuses (and treble control, if you have one). If those are okay, then you'd want to check the tweeter wires for a continuous circuit. I don't know about y .......

Well, if I needed a jig, I didn't know it and I did end up with perfectly straight wires going exactly where the previous ones were. I'd superglue one end down, then pull the wire tight and superglue .......
