I have a pair of Janszen 130 electrostatic mid/tweeters. They both sound fine but the ac transformer on one of them gets very very hot when playing. Any ideas where I might get this part ? Yes. I know .......

Sunfire amp. Outside of 300 watt tube mono blocks the Sunfire is THE amp for True ribbon Maggie's. It even sounded great on my 2.7 s Just my humble opinion Bob .......

My newly acquired very mint B&O 3404 turntable causes a very loud hum when not playing. As soon as the record begins to play the hum is entirely muted. My two other turntables are dead quiet. Fooling .......

You gotta be kidding. I've owned the Tympani iD and IVa and currently have the IIIa s and current MMG. The MMg is a very good $500 speaker but isn't even close to the previous Maggies. I use mine with .......

As usual I agree with Andy. Magnepan's stands are useless. Spikes on them would be silly. Don't think that they would help Sarah either. But at least with Sarah a few history and geography lessons mig .......

I think that it's the perfect amp for Maggies. I've used mine on smg a s.Tympanies(1D and IVa), IIIa s,3.3s,3.5s,1.6s and 3.6s. It provides a bit of tube sound for a great deal less $ than a pair of 3 .......

The mid range wires(voice coils) on my IIIas are of a very small diameter. The mid range wires on my Tympani IVas are even smaller/more like a thread or even a human hair. The mid range on my Tympanie .......

The PD-65 is a classic(was a current model in Pioneer's line for around 10 years with no changes) and great used as a deck only. I think that Pioneer still has laser assemblies available. Not so with .......

Yes it is a great mid range. It's the ATC driver used in all of ATC's better speakers. JGH gave it a rave review in Stereophile in the late 80s. I think that it's pretty easy to Google. .......

Andy's right(as usual). My MG IIIa s have their original ribbon and they are 20 years old. The ribbon sounds great and looks almost new(many knocks on wood). Just don't abuse them and use under-powere .......

My favorite integrated is the Mesa Tigris--it does have a sub-pre out and sounds wonderfull with my Edgar Titan as well as my VOTT.You often see them used(its no longer made)on Audiogon for around $1 .......

I have the Welborne Laurels,too--have had them for over 4 years. IMHO many people use SETs with the wrong speakers--I don't consider 92 or 93 db to be very efficient. In my 28' room they just make it .......

I've always been advised to remove the bug screens on altec compression drivers--but recently was advised not to on JBL and TAD drivers--I have a pair of JBL 2440 s--what do the inmates think??? ::: T .......

I have VOTT A7 s and use the Welborne Laurel 300B s.The other amp that I use with the Altecs is the Mesa Tigris --an integrated with 20 watts in 2/3 push pull triode--tons of power in my 28' living ro .......

I reviewed the First Sound for Bound for Sound several years ago and I own one--I think that it is a first class unit. Incidentally there is one avaiable on Audiogon--used for a very good price. good .......

I have had a pair of JBL S3100s for a couple of years.They"re great horn loaded units;have won top awards in Japan and France and are said to be favorites of Jean Hiraga.They are not sold in the U.S. .......

Dan,I have the same set up--I use the B&C bullets with just a cap for protection --gives just a bit of energy at the top end which I like but it's very subtle --are you using the stock XO ? Tell me ab .......

Hey--I just picked up a pair two months ago they are really something with minimal mods--mine have 416-8A s with the 806-8a driver and 811B horn--the 416 may be the best woofer that Altec made--get in .......
