The originals were JJs, crappy sound, but completely silent, then I got a quintet of Gold Lions, again silent, and finally got a set of Valvos made by Amperex - no noise whatsoever. I think I'm gonna .......

Thanks Chip, but I already sent back the tubes. The preamp is absolutely silent with the Valvo/Amperex set, which I acquired recently, actually I'm thinking about getting one more set just in case. :: .......

Folks, got a brand new set of RCA Command 5814a tubes for my Luxman cl-38uc, which uses the 12au7 variant, 5 of them actually. Now, with the 5814 I get very loud hum from both channels. Is it possible .......

It's the Luxman cl-38uc. Got it lately. It has 3x12ax7 for the phono and 5x12au7 for other purposes. I don't remember any contemporary preamps with so many 12au7's. The stock tubes are from JJ, I neve .......

Hey Jonesy, it's a eBay stuff that's why I'm reluctant. But the tubes definitely have those Mullard codes. I don't have a tester, so I have to take his words for it. .......

I don't know to be honest. I had an integrated Unison Unico Se with those tubes, and it sounded great. Still regret selling it, it was using a pair of 12au7s and that was my only experience with them. .......

Which version of the KOB CD do you have? You must avoid the Gold US from 92-93, also the one from 1997 is a crap. Anything from Europe is crap as well. Never buy the FIM version. The best I have is .......

You should have an Amazon streaming compatible TV or other device. Both my TV and Blu Ray have that feature, I don't use it, though. .......

It seems you're struggling with describing the Harbeth sound. Walter Swanbon is the distributor of this brand in the USA. Very experienced, knowledgeable person. Nobody but him can better describe Har .......

I think "Satie by Katia & Marielle Labeque" (2009) is very good. Jean-Yves Thibaudet's "The Magic of Satie" (2002) is also fine. .......
