I have an original 5350SE and it sounds good to me: nothing like the sound you describe. The 5350SE is however an integrated with a passive preamp stage and I believe that the 5350 Classic is the same .......

A NAD 3020 would be a good backup and is the kind of piece you might have lying around. When I borrowed a pair of ESL 57s, I thought that they sounded better on my Sugden A-28 than on my Quad 303. Da .......

They are often designed to mount tight to a wall and above the listener. One option might be B&W 805 Matrix which can sometimes be found for that price. The ones in the link below went for a bit more .......

Height and angle of speakers can sometimes produce odd cancellation effects. I have 805 Matrix speakers and they should not be aimed much below ear height. My guess is that mine were originally design .......

My Sony X777ES is from 91 and my Denon 3300 is from 88. In CD players, I think of that as vintage. They were both TOTL at the time with great build uality and each listing at $1,700. Both are heavier .......

A very nice amp, perhaps the best sounding vintage integrated I have heard. IMHO it sounds a lot better than any NAD amp I've heard from the following 20+ years. I've not heard their more recent mode .......

I am not an expoert but I can tell you a little bit. For almost all speakers impedance doesn't vary with volume but it does vary with frequency due to the effects of inductance and capacitance within .......

My E-II speakers use the 12.25 X 9.5 X 2.0 base size but the E-III is different. Its also worth considering a 14.25 x 11 x 10.5 stand as used by the Audio Note AN-E (derived from the Snell E-II) David .......

Have you tried the TV audio out through a stereo to check sound quality befrore you buy speakers? A good picture does not guarantee good audio and many TV's sound terrible. If it does not sound good, .......

In a condo, I think that is important to be able to listen without the bottom octave when noise is likely to be intrusive to neighbors. I would think in terms of a good speaker (probably a standmount) .......

Have you tried biamping using the internal crossovers. When I bought my 805 Matrix speakers recently, I noticed that biamping using the internal crossovers brought about a big improvement with the amp .......

Nothing wrong with buying used in good condition provided the price is reasonable. $1100 is above market for 805 Matrix but may be good for 805N's. I have the 805 Matrix and really like them a lot but .......

I think that if you switch the Processer Switch to activate the processer return inputs and then connect your preamp up to them, it will bypass the preamp in the 9200. I think that this is what it mea .......

I would use felt pads as you suggest. Rubber would probably also be OK. Little pucks under the spikes may or may not sound better but these are rear speakers and in any case, I wouldn't let spikes any .......

Further thought I would also search ebay.au and trading post for anything by Plinius or Perreaux. They will generally be above your budget but they will also be a lot better than the NAD and you might .......

The 3020 is a good sounding little amp and I think that you would find most options that don't require a lot more money are different rather than better and may well sound less satisfying. For a subs .......

It seems likely that the speed is too fast because the belts I have tried are too thick. I ordered a belt from the source recommended in that thread (Elex Etalier) and it is the same thickness 0.66mm .......

I've listened to many but not all NADs The 3080 is the best sounding NAD I have heard. It is also one of the best sounding vintage amps I have heard. If its in good shape, I think that $150 is a good .......

They are 8 ohm. If you want a complete data sheet on them, I have managed to get get my scanner working and can send you a copy. Its a scan of a fax so its not perfect and a copy from Snell may be bet .......

I'm using original Snell K's (think Audio Note K) quite close to the wall in the bedroom and it works for us but its not the primary listening room. Being sealed boxes may help when close to the wall .......

My 9100 is barely warm at normal listening levels and I've never known it to be hot. I assume that its typical but I have never heard another one. It actually runs a lot cooler than I expected it to. .......

Thanks Frank, I'm really impressed with the Snells. They sound good with any amplifier I've tried but revealed the benefits of the Plinius to a greater degree than my other speakers. I'll try the arra .......

Why do you think that contact cleaner is a waste? I was reluctant to try it too but I've found that it makes a huge difference on vintage equipment. Not just on the RCAs but even more so on the switch .......

I'm not using one but I just looked into this. The specified loading for the V15XMR is 47k ohms in parallel with 250pF capacitance. I assume that your cartridge is the same. This includes arm wiring, .......

Your advice sounds good to me but I would also consider using twisted wire to cut down the susceptibility to RFI. 12/3 wire is twisted, readily available and inexpensive so I would probably use that. .......

There is a slight advantage in setting the bearings at right angles to the cantilever (cartridge) rather than the arm. If they are at right angles to the arm, then if the arm moves up or down, it tilt .......
