Had the Haflers in the past. Sold the preamp and had a GAS Thoebe into Hafler DH 200. Very smooth and dynamic almost tube like character. Another kit DH 200 mated to Van Alstine PAT 5. All that stuf .......

Can I humbly say it's probably in the production. My DGG Peer Gynt excerpts with BPO is a good record. But, often the 70-80s DGG Karajan records have wide dynamic range (unrealistic) and multi miking .......

Tube amp has nothing to do with it. Good tube amp will reproduce the same tick. To mitigate it, search for a new copy, yes difficult. I have some newly purchased LP's from the late 70's and early 80 .......

I love the Schubert Rosamunde excerpts. The sound on the LP is spacious, realistic and smooth. There is a high level of playing from the VPO of the early 60's. I find those Angels usually sound ok, ow .......

Get them all, listen to what you like. I own over a dozen 5ths, prefer Szell Amsterdam as does TGR, Szell Cleveland has it's unique charms esp playing, Dohnanyi Telarc, maybe H v K 1962 not mid 80's .......
