IIRC the Air Tight ATM-211 is a non-paralleled SET, meaning 15-20W. That is... not a lot of power for the Quads. I've measured mine and they are right about 80 dB/W. As I think I noted, I listen semi- .......

But the heavier the moving mass, the more the system behaves like a mass-spring-damper system - meaning detail is thrown away. All dynamic drivers are examples of such systems. ESLs definitely are not .......

So I agree that dynamic contrast, especially in the midbass, is one of the few weaknesses of the Quad 63/988. It's a big weakness. That is why I bi-amp. Crossing them around 100 Hz - *and positioning .......

I've had numerous dynamic-driver dipoles and none of them had the nuance and detail of the Quad ESLs - designs based around Lowthers with bass augmentation, Supravox field-coil drivers, and non-HE dri .......

I know how they measure. I suggest you listen to them alongside a pair of, say, Wilson Sasha, or even Yvette. They do not have scale and impact in that power region that is important for a fair amount .......

Hi long-timer Ivan, I'm sure you know this, but Marchand makes some really excellent active xovers too. I use an XM66 with both Lowther horns and ESLs, and it is as close to transparent as you can get .......

I use a LOMC cart into a high-quality SUT (EAR MC-4) (into a SS MM phono pre) but still find that my digital has audibly better frequency extremes. In terms of measurements, it looks like such a SUT .......

I am not familiar with the Schhit amp but I run a Gungnir Multibit DAC as my digital source, with a music server, and it is VERY good digital. Unfortunately vinyl is still better though. .......

The latest and best digital amps (NCore) are still not nearly as good as analog amps in the critical treble region. They sound homogenized and artificial in comparison. The NCore amps sound incredible .......

Yes, that's the story! Current preamp has 8 dB of gain. DAC & phono stage outputs are typical ~2V. Gain is actually enough (barely) for all but DSD material. I would like to stay solid-state with the .......

Nope. While you're correct that a higher power amp would also likely have more gain, nothing I said indicated that I want or need a higher power amp. My Quads can't handle much more power than the 50 .......

I think it would be pretty non-optimal to go through another xover for no purpose. Also, the internal xover is often a good bit lower. For example, the new REL T line has a 120 Hz fourth-order filter .......

Yup, agree on the 103R. It only rides a tiny bit low though as it's maybe one mm taller than an Exact. I like them but worry about record wear from the unsophisticated stylus, even though I use LAST. .......

The assertion that horns lack bass is false. Rather, horn-loading bass takes a large horn. Most horn systems don't use horn-loaded bass (at least not low bass) anyway. .......

The best solid-state amps can do everything tubes do nowadays. More pertinent to your question is what kind of output impedance your speakers like; there are many speakers that are not expecting pure .......

A 15" driver can't produce anything about 1 Khz (at the very most) via pistonic motion, and these have no whizzer. So, everything from ~800 Hz on up is cone-breakup, or what? I'm not insinuating they .......

My technique was to carefully set input level ideally (to just avoid clipping) and I do NO processing to the files. (I want it to sound like playing a record - why would I process it?) Results indeed .......

A factor may be that it actually puts out much more than 25W, in class AB. It seems many Class A amps work that way. For example, the "30 watt" Pass XA30.5 actually clips at something like 110W into 8 .......

Well, you are right, that is inaccurate. 3-5% THD is usually considered around the power limit for an SE amp (and what S-file will call "clipping") but obviously 3% THD doesn't look anything like a sq .......

I'm not surprised at all you need that kind of power. It's your passive crossover. I've had full horn setups as well (DIY & AV Trios) and noted they need some power despite the ~105 dB/W+ sensitivity. .......

Ok, but certainly going by specs will be close enough, eh? The 45 SET will produce ~2W at 3-5% THD ("clipping"). Into my 16 ohm speakers by P=V^2/R we have ~5.7V. I will run such a test some time soon .......

From what I hear the TASCAM is an excellent piece also. I didn't "want" to be able to discern any difference in my copies, but that was the reality for me, and, again, this is something that is MUCH m .......

Are you sure about that? The last one I tried was a Kimber Hero and the hum is awful whereas the el cheapo Park cable is totally silent. The Parks owner says this cable has shielding and is designed .......

I have an 18" shielded IC that Parks Audio sold me to go between my SUT and preamp. It sounds great. However, he charges $15 for it. What does the audiophile in me say to that? That, well, maybe a $10 .......

BPoletti, you may be right about that, Basis tables are super, BUT dealing with footfall issues is another set of headaches with them (can't do wall rack). Also for the price they should be. The Rega .......
