Just changing the footing makes significant differences in the presentation send the platter bearing off to tubesforever (applied fidelity) try a different cartridge and or tonearm, just changing idle .......

An inexpensive ($25 to$40) plastic wet / dry vac with a slotted crevice tool (line either side of the slot with paint pad strips) has as much or more power than most any $$$ Commercial RCM, use a gut .......

Assesing stylus wear is relatively simple as long as your dealing with your current stylus profile, you just watch the wear polish pattern as it grows (develops) ideally the wear polish will be symmet .......

The Best buy in stylus cleaning is the Magic eraser glue the white side up to a coin etc. just drop the stylus upon the pad once or twice using the cuing lever before every side it'll keep your stylus .......

It's best to initially wet clean and vacuum any record then properly store them in a quality poly lined or Rice paper inner sleeve, the cheap old inner sleeves decompose and the resultant dust is surp .......

Alcohol is a decent all purpose degreaser, I prefer aerosol brake cleaner like Brak-Kleen, some folks use Butane, whatever you use it's good to clean out the clogged pores of the sintered Bronze beari .......

Go for it, just clamp the body in a vice using a sheet of Sorbothane or similar isoelastomer to be on the safe side, but I doubt the vibrations would be detrimental even without damping material . Not .......
