Did some poking around to determine voltage was going through the PS, without the preamp hooked up. It was. Hooked up the preamp. Dang...the amp fired up. Lots of hum, but at least it's out of both sp .......

No glow. All tubes tested. Replaced the fuse just in case. Checked for power in cord where it connects. Cord is good. Oh well. That's the extent of my skills. Into the dungeon with others....or. ::: .......

We'll see. There wasn't any isues with any wildflower plants being chewed on last year. All the insect critters behaved. In previous years the plants were in tubs on the deck, and one in the middle .......

Thank you for the tips. Unfortunately my variac doesn't have an ammeter. I'm stuck with only being able to watch for heaters coming up. I'm not experienced enough with electronics to go poking around .......

I had a noise problem with my PC/Stereo/TV set up a few years ago. While Using a wireless mouse, I could hear noise as I moved the cursor, moved scroll bars, etc. Less noise if I just let it sit still .......

I buy my speaker wire at Home Depot. For an extra $0.03 per foot you can get the pre-burned-in type. Works miracles. I think it added years to my Clever Hummel. Yes, you can get a "Clever" version of .......

Leaving them on for a while until you return to listen some more does no harm. Turning them off and then back on a little later will do no harm. Tubes are able to cycle on/off more times than you ever .......

Perhaps stick some craft felt under each foot? You could use a couple layers if desired. That's what I've used forever...and the amp or whatever can easily slide on the felt. Anything plastic or rubbe .......

Actually, no pressure is needed. You just need to very lightly let the buff wheel contact the pins...as if you were using it to brush your teeth...hmmmm. The wheel is not wire, so scratching won't be .......

Do a trial run on a shitty tube to can get a feel of the direction and pressure to apply so you won't bend a pin. I use the second speed setting which is faster than I wanted but actually it's just r .......

Sometimes you need to wiggle them back and forth a very tiny amount, if they'll wiggle at all. That can be a pain and end up doing damage when the socket is attached to a circuit board. Be careful. Ta .......

I use 6SN7s in my two DIY preamps. If I turn on the amp before the preamp (a no-no), I'll hear a noise, maybe even a pop from one of the the preamps tubes within the first 45 seconds of warming up. .......

I haven't had any desire to upgrade any gear for many years. The 5.1 system gets used maybe once a year, it it's lucky. I already have too much stereo equipment that sits idle. .......

The 6AL5 is not alive. It's an LED providing the glow. Being it's just an LED....there's a lot better choices for tube bling than using a 6AL5. Just my crappy opinion. .......

I've always like the Tung-Sol ads in Electronics. Only few advertisers spent the money Tung-Sol did for their ads. The paper is much thicker and heavier than other pages and has a glossy finish. Color .......

A budget system can be cheap, and there's a few sources of inexpensive gear. You won't put it together in weekend, but in a few weeks it can be done. Garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores, vintage .......
