I've tried several approaches over the last couple of years but, in terms of appearance, WAF, AND practicality, the one I'm currently using has definitely proven the best. It was originally developed by another inmate, Maprik, around a year or so ago.Head down to your local Chinese or Asian grocery store and look for some plain white porcelain Chinese tea cups (no handles). Then find some plain white china chopstick rests. Glue a rest to the base of each cup. The cables sit on the chopstick rests.
If I remember correctly, Maprik damped the interior of the cups with Blu Tack and I tried that for a while but eventually I just sprayed some expanding foam filler inside. It will be much easier to do this before you glue the rests to the bottoms but it can be done later.
I've found them to be very effective and much more attractive than any of my own approaches. The only problem is finding a glue that works well with the glazed surfaces.
