After much deliberation we have decided not to have a Craftsman's room (ala VSAC) at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. The primary reasons being that we received a lot of pressure from exhibitors for our large conference rooms & suites and the show has really grown to a size that we had not initially anticipated. Therefore due to the show size, staffing requirements and some security issues, at least for the inaugural year, we won't be able to do this kind of room. However, in the spirit of DIY, Welborne Labs will open its exhibit room to DIY speaker builders who would like to show off their creations. I will post more details on my website later this week but to provide just a few preliminaries: The speakers must be DIY and of your own design, they must be able to sing with 7 watts or less, and it's up to you to get them to and from the show in Denver (i.e. it's your expense). I will probably limit the number to a half dozen or less that way everyone will have the opportunity to play their speakers in the system for at least 2-4 hours during the weekend. Those that participate will receive free passes for the weekend along with a few other bene's. Details to follow.

Even though there will not be a Craftsman's room, DIY will be waving the mighty flag at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and will be well represented by companies such as; BD-Design, Bottlehead, Audiokits.com, DIY Cable, Edgar Horn, DIY HiFi, Cryotweaks, Drysdale Technologies, GR Research, Hagerman Technology, Creative Sound Solutions, Vacuum Tube Valley, Modwright, Welborne Labs and others.

Dan Schmalle and I will be puttin' on a basic soldering workshop at the audiofest. If you're really interested in what DIY has to offer but don't know which end of a soldering iron to grab hold of---you will be a pro when Dan and I get through with you! We'll be covering the basics of soldering and should have a simple project for you to build (under our supervision) during the workshop. The class project will be provided with part donations by Bottlehead, Welborne Labs and possibly a few others. Jim Hagerman has also graciously donated a kit that will be given away at the end of the class. More details will be available for this workshop on the Audiofest website too.

So we hope to see a good number of you DIY guys at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. It's shaping up to be a really fun weekend. We'll have over 70 exhibit rooms at the fest along with a vendor booth area, seminars, workshops and live music including 2 concerts by Patricia Barber scheduled for Saturday night.

Register early for discounted passes.
