You're absolutely right. Your mains supply may well have a few spikes etc. These are normally removed by the equipment's built-in mains transformer, but you may wish to add a simple filter device to go one step further for peace of mind. Good equipment is designed to deal with "grotty" mains supply. As far as I know, no high end manufacturer recommends fancy mains treatment before the supply reaches their equipment. That fact is surely hugely significant?The equipment itself generates RFI etc - protecting other pieces of equipment from this interference is best achieved by using screened mains cables. Nothing fancy or expensive is necessary.
There's lots of people claiming huge improvements after they've spent a bundle on dedicated supply, but of course, they have to justify to themselves that the expense was worthwhile. Had they spent this sum on better equipment, there really would be an improvement.
