Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: I don't understand the trade-in.

If I am not mistaken, the upsampler board uses an entirely different DAC. It appears to use a single stereo Analog Devices Delta-Sigma DAC. The stock op-amps from the original board are not used because a Delta-Sigma DAC has op-amps on-board, as well as built-in filtering.

The stock AH! uses a current output DAC that has no on-board filtering or op-amps, allowing the designer to choose the filtering schemes and op-amps that he wants to use for I-V conversion, etc. These are the units that are replaced with the AD825's or OPA-627's to significantly change the sonics of the unit.

I will not comment here as to which is better, in terms of the different types of DACs, but there has been much discussion on AA about this in the past.

I also can't comment on the upsampling module either as I haven't heard it.

I am just trying to offer some clarification as to what I believe is going on with the upsampler module and also how it appears to differ from the stock circuit design.
