Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

A couple of questions for all you CD demagnetists out there.

Paramagnetic materials, such as aluminum, are weakly attracted by magnets. An orbiting electron in an atom is a form of electric current, and so it creates a magnetic field. If the total field from all the electrons is not zero, the material is paramagnetic.

My interest was piqued by a thread further down this page about CD magnetism. I would have attached this post there, but it's getting a bit far down the list, and I'd like to put it in a place where more people will see it.

I'm not usually one to dismiss tweak claims (no matter how unreasonable they seem to be) without trying them out for myself, but Fururech's claim that their RD-2 is able to demagnetize non-ferrous objects is one of the more… err… unusual stretches of the imagination that I've come across in a long time. I'm not technically minded and, while I've heard of paramagnetics, I couldn't begin to pretend that I understand the principle. I'm curious about the claims, but I can't afford to buy a unit and hope that it'll "do the business"; and I can't find a retailer who's prepared to give me an in-home trial, so... I'd like to ask you devotees of the stable electron a couple of questions.

1. How long do the effects of the demagnetization last? Furutech claims that you will need to re-treat the disk only a couple of times a year, is this accurate? I've heard people say that the Bendini Clarifier is only good for about 10-15 minutes. Is this a reasonable assessment?

2. The Tin Foil Tweak (which spawned the Tin Foil Wars in the General Asylum, about a month ago) had a very good effect in my system, but the improvements were very short lived (about 10 minutes-or-so). Are the effects of these big-buck demagnetizers similar to this 1cent tweak or are the big-boys "more in control"?

3. Some tweakers say that the Radio Shack Bulk Eraser adds extra benefits to both the Furutech and Bendini. Is the RSBE a good demagnetizer in its own right? Would it be a good, cheap alternative to the intimidatingly expensive units?

I'm interested in any experience you may have had with these units, good, bad or indifferent. Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom.
