Gold is only used because of the oxidation protection as a conductor silver and copper is much better. Some producers of connectors know this. They use rhodium instead of gold because it is also not corrosive but an even better conductor! (Though not as good as silver/copper). Try having a look in some data books with physical standards and you would see what I mean.PS. The weight of the gold might dampen the movements in the cable!! If you are loaded it might be worth a try.
