I went through the same process about a month ago of wanting something inexpensive to play CD's, since I'm more into vinyl. Based on what I have read on the Digital board, I purchased a Toshiba 3990 DVD player at Best Buy for $45.00. It's still in burn-in right now, but it doesn't sound bad at all. You may want to do a search on it on Digital board using 3990 as a search term. Also look for postings by PeAk on the subject.
