Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |

So I had this sheet of 1/4" acrylic just sitting around (www.mcmaster.com)and my trusty router and a Jasper circle jig (partsexpress.com) so I figured why not? Besides it's been raining here in So California all day so..About 15 minutes later I had a 12" diameter black arcylic mat for my Technics SL-1210. (I placed the acrylic mat in place of the rubber one of course.)
Using a brand new copy of Alison Krauss "Forget About It" I have to say the improvement is rather dramatic. I'm no vinyl expert yet but to my ears there are vastly increased dynamics - including significantly improved bass.
I know the general consenus is to dampen down the platter but the arcylic seems to really make the SL-1200 come alive.
