Dear All
My father (David Gammon) founded Transcriptors in 1960. He designed the Reference, Hydraulic Reference, Saturn, Skeleton, Round, Transcriber turntables. The Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference was used by Stanley Kubrick in his 1971 film ' A ClockWork Orange ', not a Michell Reference. He also supplied the Hydraulic Reference to 'SME' in kit form which was fitted with their '3009' tonearm. Kubrick came to my father's factory at 2 Theobald Street,Borehamwood, Herts (now the premises of Michell) . My father gave Kubrick the table for free. In 1972 my father issued Michell with a license to manufacture the Reference under the Michell logo. Michell has never designed any of the Transcriptor turntables, nor was he a director of the company. The only evolvment Michell has had with Transcriptors was to manufacture components under contract from Transcriptors. Michell has copied my father designs e.g The Focus One. My father also designed the electronics for the 'Electronic Reference', but this was never manufactured as the company was moved to Ireland. In 1971 my father was awarded a design award by the 'Design Council,London' which was presented to him by H.R.H Princess Margaret, and has also recieved other design awards from around the world.
All his turntables have sold in their thousands, and contary to belief they were not failures !.
I have reformed my fathers company to supply spares/repairs/servicing and restoration.
My father worked for over thirty years manufacturing turntables only to have Michell try and muscle in on his work and claim the glory. Well for once and for all it is going to stop. If you want to find out more infomation, then i suggest you visit our web site which is at www.transcriptors.co.uk and find out the full story !.
My father is alive and well so is my mother, and they will quite glady back up the information, even in court!.
