How do you explain this? The AT33R has the same compliance specs as the AT33PTg. The AT33R comes complete with a universal headshell.

AT33R
Mass (cartridge): 7g
Head shell attaching mass (with brass screw installation): 27g (heavy weight cylinder) / 23g (lightweight cylinder)

Add the effective mass of the arm tube, and the traditional 8-12 Hz range is blown out of the water. I'm using an AT33PTG in a 13g Alphason. There have been lots of posts in VA claiming the AT33 shouldn't be used with an arm over 10 or 12g. I know from first-hand experience, that it's a brilliant match. The arm-cartridge resonance is clearly not a problem as far as Audio-Technica is concerned, and in practical terms it's having no negative effects in my system. I measured 10 Hz with the Hi-Fi News record, which John Elison claims is approximately 8 Hz. So IMO, any medium to medium-heavy arm will work fine. In Audio-Technica's view, it would appear they are recommending a high mass arm for the current AT33's.
