Do not overlook the Dynavector 20X. It would be about the same cost as your re-tip, and it is a superb cartridge. Mine tracks all three levels of the Hi Fi News test record with ease, and the sound is extremely musical, the sound stage open and airy, and the high end very smooth. I have yet to hear inner grove distortion on any old records that I've bought, regardless of condition. Maybe I'm lucky.
