there's a lot of iron in a Citation II. Adding that to Jim's recommended updates to this amp, I'm not surprised that strapping them into monoblock form would prove to be so lucid.
I've discovered similar with a set of Mac MC-225s strapped into monoblock mode with the Quad ESL63s.
While I've got only one Citation II, I do enjoy running it with the Quads, too. I'm convinced that the massive iron of the output transformers plus the wide-bandwidth amp stages do add more air around the music.
